Welcome to the homepage of the artist Edgar Jené!

The german-french artist Edgar Jené is considered to be one of the most important founders of the viennese school of surrealism. While he was studying in Paris he was introduced to the surrealists movement around Andre Breton. He brought those impressions to Vienna, where he inspired many other artists. Most significantly he played a major role in the development of the fantastic realists.

In Jenés work his preoccupation with the significance of dreams and psychoanalysis can be observed. Often his atmospheric scenes are reminiscent of dreamlike sequences.

After his death Edgar Jenés art had been forgotten for a while. It was only since around the 1990ies that his works became popular to a broader audience again.
